Works from the Savages series explore the body as a cultural artifact, playing on the meanings attached to power and strength, while also addressing the artificial ways that these ideals are achieved or represented by Western culture in depictions and manifestations of the male body. They also play on the colonialist notions of the non-Western tribal male as a "savage," juxtaposed here with their bodies shaped by very Western notions of strength and masculinity. | ![]() 2008 |
